Description
Union Pacific GP38-2 diesel locomotive in the “Baby Wings†livery with a yellow sill, road number 578, captured in true HO-scale detail. This model is designed for realistic operation on HO layouts and for display, with prototypical paint, precise lettering, and scale-accurate features that reproduce the look of UP’s classic late-20th-century locomotive.
Power and performance come from a Genesis drivetrain with a 5-pole motor, heavy die-cast frame, RP25 wheels, and all-wheel drive for smooth, quiet pulling. It is DCC-ready with Quick Plug technology via a 21-pin NEM connector for easy decoder installation, and LED lighting provides reliable visibility on the layout. Inside there is a full cab interior, see-through cab windows, windshield wipers, MU hoses, coupler cut levers, trainline hose, and a detailed fuel tank for added realism. Sound-equipped versions add an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Tsunami2 and dual speakers, with full DCC functionality and NMRA compatibility; CVs allow fine-tuning and lashups. Road-name specifics reflect UP modern features such as corrugated grilles, Q-fans, ditch lights, and a K3 horn, all built to scale for authentic operation on layouts with a minimum 18-inch radius.
