Description

This HO-scale Baltimore & Ohio H16-44 locomotive in blue scheme 9741 is a faithful reproduction of Fairbanks Morse’s mid-century diesel, delivering about 1,600 horsepower from an eight-cylinder opposed-piston engine. The Phase III updates—raised walkways and a simplified short and long hood—give the model a distinctive silhouette. It’s designed for HO layouts, bringing authentic 1950s hood-unit power to life with road-specific detail.

Road-name specifics are richly captured, including hood doors and handrails with separately installed grab irons, full underbody piping and conduits, lit number boards, headlights, and green-and-white class lights. The model offers DC, DC-ready silent 21-pin DCC, or DC/DCC with sound options, and rides on prototypical trucks (Dofasco or Fairbanks Morse) with steam generators where appropriate and different fuel tanks depending on the road name. A proven drive system—Rapido’s drive system adapted from the FA-2—provides smooth operation, and Macdonald Cartier magnetic couplers are installed at the correct height for reliable coupling.
