This detailed model reproduces a classic General American mill gondola from the early 1940s, a durable car designed for steel-mill shipments that require extra length. The end panels hinge inward to allow long loads to extend beyond the car, with flat cars required at both ends to provide clearance for the overhang.
Designed for realism and easy operation, it features working drop ends with a simple lift-and-fold action, separately applied wire grab irons, and interior detailing. The highly detailed injection-molded body rides on machined metal wheels with RP25 contours for smooth performance on most HO tracks, and uses body-mounted McHenry scale knuckle couplers for authentic handling. Decorated and fully assembled, this model is ready to run out of the box and requires as little as an 18″ minimum radius to navigate typical layouts while delivering a convincing, historically accurate silhouette for steel-focused railroads.
