Description
HO-scale Dash 9-44CW Locomotive with DCC & Sound in Union Pacific livery, UP 9741, is a detailed, ready-to-run model that recreates a late-1990s UP Dash 9-44CW, including CNW heritage patches. It includes a modeler-installed GPS dome for later-era operations and a Leslie RS3L horn for authentic sound, along with a large snowplow and distinctive UP logo details on side doors. Built in 1994 as part of UP’s original Dash 9-44CW order, this locomotive is designed to bring mainline power and prototype nuance to an HO layout.
On the track, the model delivers a wealth of scale-accurate features and dependable operation: LED ground lights above the front trucks, front and rear walkway lights, and illuminated number boards; etched, see-through walkway steps; a full cab interior; body-mounted scale knuckle couplers; a heavy die-cast frame and all-wheel drive for steady pulling power; RP25 wheel contours for smooth running; and a DCC-ready design with Quick Plug technology and a 21-pin NEM connector for easy decoder installation. Sound-equipped versions include onboard DCC with SoundTraxx Tsunami2, two speakers, and full NMRA-compatible functions when in DCC mode. The model runs on DC or DCC layouts, with CV-based tuning options, and carries a minimum recommended radius of 18 inches (22 inches preferred). It also reflects the “Primed for grime†approach, providing a realistic starting point to add grime and rust to match the prototype’s appearance.
