Description
HO Scale Class D Shay four-truck locomotive, Southern Railway number 4000, is a faithful representation of the classic geared steam locomotive built for heavy-haul work on rugged terrain. With three cylinders and four trucks, this model delivers strong pulling power and excellent adhesion, ideal for logging and industrial operations on challenging grades. A heavy die-cast boiler, tender body, and chassis add weight for maximum traction, while authentic detailing captures the look and feel of the prototype.
Powered by Paragon4 Sound and Control, this model includes an operating smoke unit and an integral DCC decoder with Back EMF for smooth slow-speed operation in both DC and DCC layouts. Prototypical sounds accompany realistic features like separately controllable headlight, reverse light, and cab light, along with a host of separately applied details such as handrails, ladders, conduits, generators, whistle, horn, and brass bell. Rubber traction tires boost pulling power, and a 22-inch minimum radius ensures reliable operation on most HO layouts.
