Description
HO Scale Athearn BethGon Coalporter with Coal Load is an HO-model replica of Bethlehem Steel’s BethGon coal car, built for coal-hauling duty on modern layouts. The real car was notable for its all-aluminum construction and bathtub-style bottom, which increased capacity and helped tracking; the model captures that look with a removable coal load for realistic loaded and unloaded scenes.
Detail and performance features include separate wireform grab irons and etched metal coupler platforms, a separately applied brake wheel, and a removable coal load. The model rides on 36-inch machined metal wheels with RP25 profiles and uses body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers for reliable, close-to-scale operation. It’s weighted for smooth performance, features a highly detailed injection-molded body, and is painted and printed for realistic decoration. With multiple road numbers and a minimum radius of 18 inches, it’s ready to pull coal-train appearances on typical HO layouts.
