Description
An HO-scale 60-foot Pullman Common Standard Postal Car in Illinois Central livery (IC 80), this model recreates the sturdy, steel-bodied mail car that helped speed mail handling on early 20th-century passenger trains. It captures the Harriman-era Common Standard design, making it a natural centerpiece for HO layouts that feature classic railroad equipment.
Details include arched roof panels with rivets, roof vents and a stove smokestack, mail slots on both sides, and a magnetically attached roof for easy interior access. The car rides on six-wheel trucks with McHenry knuckle-spring couplers and end diaphragms, and it’s weighted for smooth operation on HO-scale track. It is designed to run on curves as tight as 18 inches, and two underframe variantsâ€â€an “as-built†version with gas tanks and a modernized version with a battery boxâ€â€reflect prototype differences to add versatility to mail-car scenes.
