Description
HO-scale 60-foot Pullman Common Standard Postal Car, green and unlettered, is a faithful reproduction of the early 20th‑century mail car used to speed postal handling on American railroads. Rooted in the Harriman-era Common Standard design, these cars moved from wood to steel construction for safety and strength, and the model reflects that history with arched roof panels, rivet detailing, and period features such as mail slots on each side and interior mail‑handling components like letter cases, pouch racks, bins, and sorting tables. A magnetically attached roof provides easy access for maintenance while preserving a clean silhouette on the layout.
Designed for HO layouts, the car rides on six‑wheel trucks with scale knuckle‑spring couplers and is weighted for smooth operation on typical HO-radius curves (minimum 18 inches). End diaphragms and period detailingâ€â€Âsuch as underbody gas tanks and options for pressed steel or wooden side doorsâ€â€Âheighten realism while the unlettered finish keeps the car versatile for mixed mail and passenger trains. The model represents two underframe variants (as-built with gas tanks and modernized with a battery box), offering authentic flexibility for recreating classic mail service on a hobbyist’s layout.
