Description
This HO-scale, 50-foot Youngstown plug-door insulated box car in Milwaukee Road livery, numbered 3077, reproduces a classic mid-20th-century freight car designed to protect temperature-sensitive cargo on long hauls. It’s an authentic addition for period layouts and realistic freight operations.
Details include separately applied brake wheel and ladders, 70-ton roller bearing trucks, 33-inch machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, and a weighted chassis for smooth running. The highly detailed, injection-molded body is painted and printed to match authentic schemes, with body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers for prototypical coupling. It runs on HO layouts with a minimum radius of 18 inches. Historically, insulated boxcars began appearing in the early 1950s as 50-footers with plug doors that sealed tightly, keeping cargo within a few degrees of its original temperature for daysâ€â€ideal for perishables such as canned foods.
