Description
This HO-scale 50-foot Superior Plug Box Car in Chicago and North Western livery recreates a late-1960s Fruit Growers Express design, providing a faithful insulated boxcar for realistic freight operations on HO layouts.
Equipped with separately applied brake wheel and ladders, 70-ton roller bearing trucks, 33-inch machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, and body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers, the model rides smoothly on HO track. It is weighted for stable handling, and the highly detailed injection-molded body is painted and printed to match authentic schemes. The 10-foot-wide plug doors reflect the real car’s insulated design for a tighter seal and easier forklift loading, while the minimum curve radius of 18 inches ensures compatibility with a wide range of layouts. These plug box cars were designed to haul temperature-sensitive cargo and a variety of freight, underscoring their practical role in railroad operations.
