Description
An HO scale 50-foot Superior Plug Box Car in BNSF livery, this model reproduces a late-1960s insulated boxcar designed for temperature-sensitive freight. The 10-foot wide plug doors provide a tighter seal against outside temperatures and simplify loading, capturing the practical function of the era’s equipment.
Details include separately applied brake wheels and ladders, 70-ton roller bearing trucks, 33-inch machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, and an overall weight balanced for steady, dependable tracking. Body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers enable authentic coupling to other equipment, while a highly detailed injection-molded body is painted and printed to realistic prototype decoration. The model runs on HO layouts with a minimum radius of 18 inches and reflects representative prototype schemes. Based on the late-1960s Fruit Growers Express design, the insulated car featured plug doors for a tight seal and interior cargo handling, making it a versatile piece for a busy freight roster.
