Description
The HO Trinity 3-Bay Hopper is a detailed HO-scale model that faithfully replicates Trinity’s iconic 3-bay covered hopper, designed to haul bulk agricultural products, sugar, and other dry goods on a model railroad layout. It is offered in two body styles to mirror the prototype’s 10-panel and 12-panel variations, and it features authentic touches such as a coupler cut lever and air hose at each end, a separate brake cylinder, valve and air reservoir with wire brake plumbing, and a photo-etched metal roofwalk. Body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers ride with a standard-size draft gear box and screw-mounted lid, while Genesis 100-ton trucks with animated spinning roller bearing caps and 36-inch machined metal wheels with RP25 contours deliver reliable tracking on most brands of track. Weighted for stable performance and with a minimum 18-inch radius requirement, this hopper is ready for dependable operation on mid-size HO layouts.
Primed for grime-modeling, the model presents an authentic “in-service†appearance with base colors faded to match the prototype, forming a natural starting point for weathering like grime and rust. In prototype terms, Trinity’s 3-bay, 5,161-cubic-foot covered hopper design became a common sight on North American railroads since the mid-1990s, optimized for transporting agricultural products and other dry commodities. This combination of earnest detailing, robust running gear, and historical realism makes it a versatile addition to any HO-scale freight roster.
