Description
Gunderson Maxi-Stack II well cars in Southern Pacific livery are HO-scale intermodal freight models designed to reproduce late-1980s double-stack service along iconic routes such as the Sunset Route. These cars mirror SP’s Maxi II design, with end wells reinforced to carry 40-foot containers and longer intermediate bays able to accommodate 48-foot containers, capturing the era’s focus on high-capacity intermodal transport.
Designed for durability whether loaded or empty, the model features heavy cast metal frames, etched stainless-steel walkway platforms, and separately applied brake and trainline details. Additional touches include bent-wire grab irons, animated roller bearings on both 70- and 125-ton trucks, and rubber inter-car trainline hoses, delivering a rugged, highly detailed replica that pairs well with other intermodal equipment on a layout.
